My Story

I am a photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. I graduated from Rhodes University with a Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Photography, Art History and Visual Culture.

Birns Photography developed out of a personal journey with making pictures and a need to create conscious, authentic and collaborative content for like-minded individuals, projects, or businesses.

Photography is a powerful tool. It can harm by creating false illusions and add glitter to an already sparkling world. Or it can inform, foster relationships, and facilitate healing through meaningful story telling.

My camera is my tool and how I use it is ultimately up to me. But I believe it is my responsibility to create visual content that is not only ethical but also conveys truth. To create something meaningful, there must be good intent. I am at my truest when creating for individuals, projects and businesses that embrace human kindness as well as local community and environmental consciousness.

With a background in fine art, I believe that true creative work comes from adopting an open mindset and saying it as it is. The journey we take will be uniquely personal and collaborative, whilst being mindful of play.
